Your baby weighs about 1/3 oz or 10 grams and measures 1.7 inches or 4.3 centimeters, similar to a paperclip.
CHANGES IN YOUR BABY THIS WEEK
The nose is taking relief because the nasal bone is formed. In the mouth there are already taste buds that will allow baby to differentiate flavors.
Baby’s ovaries/testicles, depending on whether they are a girl or a boy, are beginning to form and the testicles are already producing testosterone. The external genitalia are already defined, although it is very difficult to differentiate them on an ultrasound.
He moves more and more. This is a very active period. He really likes to open and close his hands.
The diaphragm begins to prepare to work after birth, when the baby begins to breathe outside air. As a result of this maturation, she will begin to have episodes of hiccups. It is too early for mom to feel it, but at the end of the pregnancy you will notice these movements very easily.
YOUR PHYSICAL AND EMOTIONAL CHANGES
Orthostatic hypotension is very common in pregnancy. Even if you have not heard its name, you will have suffered it often: you are sitting or lying down, you get up quickly, you get dizzy and after a few seconds you recover from laziness. This occurs because of the cardiovascular changes that occur in your body.
Your abdomen no longer leaves room for doubt that you are pregnant. If you lie on your back, the uterus begins to poke above the pelvis. At the end of this week you will be able to feel it on your abdomen.
Did you know…
The uterus is the organ that changes the most during pregnancy, it goes from weighing 7 grams to a kilo at the end of pregnancy.
At the end of the first trimester, some dental problems may appear or worsen existing ones. In general, the problems of the mouth get worse during pregnancy.
Not only can you go to your dentist with total confidence in safety, but you should do it if you have tooth pain or your gums bleed when brushing. A dental infection can affect the healthy course of pregnancy.
On a mental level, if you follow your pregnancy in the public health system, the proximity of the first ultrasound may have you excited, but also somewhat uneasy. The changes in pregnancy are not just physical!
Common symptoms at week 11 of pregnancy
- Vaginal discharge
- Nausea
- Tiredness and sleepiness
- Constipation
- Orthostatic hypotension
- Dental problems
TIPS FOR YOUR WELL-BEING
By now you should have a proper daily exercise routine in place. If you’re having a hard time, the activity you’ve chosen probably isn’t motivating you enough. Think of another that you really enjoy, so it will be easier to get going.
Be very careful when getting up to avoid getting dizzy. It does not pose a risk to your health or that of your baby, since hypotension is temporary, but you could become unbalanced and fall to the ground, giving yourself an injury that could pose a risk.
Advice
Go to a checkup with your dentist so that you know the state of your mouth. If they have to give you anesthesia for any treatment, you should know that it is totally safe for your baby.
Also remember to continue taking folic acid.
MEDICAL EXAMS AND TESTS AT WEEK 11
If you have a hereditary disease, a child with a genetic alteration, or you have had a fetal DNA test with a result that suggests the presence of an abnormality in your baby, starting this week they will be able to perform a test called a chorionic biopsy.
The chorion is a layer of the placenta where there are fetal cells. By studying them, chromosomal and genetic alterations can be confirmed or ruled out with greater reliability.
This test is invasive, under ultrasound control they will puncture the chorion (the needle can be inserted vaginally or abdominally) to obtain a small sample.
Important- You must rest for 24 hours after the test and go to the hospital if vaginal bleeding, fever, fluid loss, or severe pain appear.
If your blood group is Rh-, after the test you should get an injection, anti-D gamma globulin, to avoid blood incompatibility in your baby.
Also, if last week they didn’t give you an appointment for an early biochemical exam, they will do so this week. If you want more information about this test, you will find it in week 10.
FREQUENT QUESTIONS
How can I make sure everything is going to work out?
Given the proximity of the first ultrasound, many doubts arise about whether everything will turn out well. Most likely, the pregnancy will proceed without complications and we have a very good healthcare system aimed at preventing complications, detecting them early and treating them in the best possible way.
Which hospital do I choose for delivery?
Many women now begin to assess where to give birth, if there are different hospitals in their city. Write down any questions you want to ask about the hospital you’re going to next week to have an ultrasound.
