Week 7 of Pregnancy

0 0
Read Time:5 Minute, 50 Second

The baby is only 1 centimeter long, like a coffee bean, but surely you will already start showing your belly to everyone asking “can I see it yet?”

CHANGES IN YOUR BABY THIS WEEK

Your little one moves a lot, although you are not yet able to notice anything.

All of its organs continue to differentiate and grow rapidly, except for the tadpole-tailed dorsal area, which is shrinking.

During this week the digestive tract is formed and the eyes, ears and nostrils begin to differentiate.

YOUR PHYSICAL AND EMOTIONAL CHANGES

Your uterus grows more and more, abdominal cramps similar to those that appear during menstruation are still normal.

In addition, the pressure in the bladder increases, and with it the constant urge to urinate: being compressed, your bladder no longer allows the same amount of urine to accumulate and warns you earlier to go to the bathroom.

The hormone progesterone begins to do its thing in the intestine, promoting constipation.

In some women it takes longer to appear, but it usually does in practically all when, to the effect of progesterone, a size of the uterus of such dimensions is added that it also compresses the digestive system.

At this point, 75% of pregnant women experience nausea at some point during the day. It is very unpleasant, but in a few weeks it is normal for symptoms to subside.

Although you do not see it, the mucous plug begins to form in the cervix, whose function is to prevent the entry of microorganisms into the uterus as much as possible and protect the baby.

Common symptoms in week 7 of pregnancy

  • Breast discomfort
  • Abdominal cramps
  • Frequent urge to urinate (frequent urination)
  • Nausea
  • Tiredness and sleepiness
  • Constipation

TIPS FOR YOUR WELL-BEING

If you start with constipation, it is very important that you introduce some habits into your daily life to solve it, since it is a situation that, most likely, will be with you for a few months.

You will avoid or reduce constipation by drinking enough fluids throughout the day; Keep in mind that you will not only do it in the form of water, soups, gazpachos or fruit have a high water content.

Increase your intake of fruits and vegetables and replace pasta, bread and rice with their whole grain version.

Important– Do not make that intake of extra fluids based on juices, not even if they are natural, since they contain many free sugars and glucose is tolerated with greater difficulty during pregnancy. In addition, with the juices we eliminate the fantastic fiber that the fruit has, with how important it is to prevent constipation!

The last piece of advice to fight constipation is to exercise; progesterone slows down bowel movement, so we should favor it with some activity such as brisk walking, pilates or swimming, which will provide other benefits for health and pregnancy.

There are many people who are not clear about what constipation is… being constipated is having very hard stools, not going to the bathroom a little.

How often you go to the bathroom doesn’t matter, which is what confuses many people. If you go to the bathroom only every 3 days, but you manage to pass stools without straining and your stools are of a normal consistency, you are not constipated. If you go daily 2 times, but each time you have to make efforts and the consistency is hard, you have constipation.

It is very important to know this, since drinking fluids, eating fiber and exercising will not influence the frequency with which you go to the bathroom (nor does it need to), but rather the consistency of your stool.

Also remember to continue taking folic acid.

MEDICAL EXAMS AND TESTS AT WEEK 7

If you wish or have private insurance, you can have an early ultrasound, at 7 weeks your baby’s heartbeat will be seen clearly, although it cannot yet be heard.

Remember that this ultrasound will be vaginal, not abdominal, since your uterus is still hidden behind your pubic bone, making it very difficult for it to be seen by placing a probe on your belly.

An abdominal ultrasound is more comfortable than a vaginal one, but the gynecologist will be very careful throughout the test so that it does not bother you.

Although it is a test with many limitations due to the size of the baby (keep in mind that it is too early to be able to detect or rule out anomalies), it can assess where it has been implanted in the uterus, thus confirming that it is where it should be and not treated of an extrauterine pregnancy (in some cases the embryos are implanted in a fallopian tube, a place where they cannot develop. Usually, you notice this before doing any ultrasound, because it usually causes intense pain) and you will also see… if a baby comes! Or come two!

Advice

Keep in mind that during pregnancy the superficial blood circulation in the vagina increases a lot, before a manipulation such as performing a vaginal ultrasound, it is possible that you bleed very slightly. Do not be scared if when you return home and go to the bathroom to clean yourself and discover a small brown or pink stain on the paper, it is perfectly normal and harmless for your baby.

FREQUENT QUESTIONS

Should I have an ultrasound now?

After the initial moment of joy at knowing that you are pregnant, doubts and fears may begin or, perhaps they were there from the beginning, but the emotion of knowing that you are going to be a mother did not make you pay much attention to them either.

There are women who are calmer by having an early ultrasound, you can do it if it is your case. What is very important to keep in mind is that the ultrasound will give you peace of mind at that time, but it does not guarantee in any case that at the end of that same day everything will continue well. The usual thing is that a pregnancy is not complicated, but it is something that nobody is going to be able to guarantee you. Is it normal to feel anxious or depressed during pregnancy?

Pregnancy is a critical period for the onset of an anxiety disorder or even depression, even if the pregnancy is highly desired by you and you feel that you have everything to be happy. It is something that is covered up socially, but believe me, it happens much more than what is said!

If you feel anxious or sad for a long time, you will greatly benefit from professional help.

Women who take the step of consulting a psychologist since the start of this annoying concern, say they feel much better and prevent their discomfort from getting worse.

There are perinatal psychologists, specialists in the care of pregnant and postpartum women. You don’t just have to take care of yourself on a physical level!
