Just because you or your partner are pregnant doesn’t mean you still can’t get it on! Here are the best sex positions for pregnancy. Use your imagination and creativity to figure out how these work if you aren’t already familiar with them!
Missionary Position
The old classic is great for making babies and should still be comfortable during the first and second trimesters. The third trimester may require a little reworking to stay comfortable, but many couples can make it work throughout pregnancy.
This position is excellent for mom because it allows her to relax and let her partner do most of the work. The face-to-face orientation keeps the experience intimate while allows partners to touch each other as well.
Dizziness during the third trimester is a possibility due to mom being on her back. If this happens, try leaning up against a pillow to get up off of horizontal. This may be more comfortable regardless. The weight of the person on top may also be uncomfortable for mom. Luckily, there is another form of the missionary position to help with this. More on that below.
Spooning Position
This position works greats throughout pregnancy and may be a lifesaver during the third trimester when mom’s bump may make everything else more difficult. You can use a pillow to support mom’s bump and mom can also roll forward a little onto her stomach. This will make it easier to be penetrated.
Given that both partners are laying on their sides, hands get to play here. Feel free to touch each other. Dad can also stay out and use his penis to stimulate the clitoris for a little extra fun for mom. This position makes for shallow penetration, so it may be more comfortable for some women or lacking for others.
Cowgirl Position
Woman on top makes for a lot of fun during all three trimesters. Not only does she control the pace, but also the depth! Feel free to lean forward in this position and use the wall or headboard for more support and control. Pillows under dad will make for more penetration. The power dynamic here makes for interesting quickies.
Women should find this position comfortable because it doesn’t require a whole lot of stretching or contortion. Your partner should be able to play with your breasts and clitoris while you control the rest of the experience.
Be careful later in pregnancy when squatting may be more difficult. If this is the case, use your knees instead. Or use your knees regardless and see if it feels different!
Doggy Style Position
There’s no bad time for doggy style, but this may be the best position for third trimester when mom’s bump is getting in the way of everything. This position is great when you need to take some pressure off your pelvis and back. This is especially helpful if you have back or pelvis pain. If you partner is able to, it also makes for some great clitoris access.
Doggy style is another low energy position where mom can relax and let her partner do most of the work. It works well with either both people on the bed or mom kneeling at the edge and her partner standing behind.
This position allows for deep penetration but may be uncomfortable if you have wrist problems. Lay your arms flat on the bed to relieve pressure, but know that it allows deeper penetration. Use a pillow between your butt and your partner’s stomach to limit the depth.
Scissors Position
Scissoring means that you can lie face-to-face with your partner and enjoy the intimacy that it brings. Kissing, cuddling, and eye contact are all possible while you have sex the whole time. This position is great during all trimesters and especially during the third.
It is hard to find a downside to this position other than penetration tends to be fairly shallow. Outside of that, it’s a great position.
Side Saddle Position
Here’s another one where mom can relax and enjoy the trip to Pound Town. Your partner can do most of the work here with ample access to sensitive spots. This position shouldn’t be a problem during the first and second trimesters. The third trimester may not be as comfortable, but not much is during the home stretch.
Penetration is shallow in this position and mom may feel dizzy being on her back for too long. Just as mentioned earlier, a pillow or two to prop you up should relieve any dizziness.
Modified Missionary Position
Think missionary but with your partner kneeling or standing. Almost like cowgirl but with the woman on her back. You can wrap your legs around your partner and help set the pace or keep him in. Your partner is free to use his hands the whole time with adequate access to the goodies. This position should work great during all three trimesters. Just like other positions with the woman on her back, there is the possibility of dizziness, but that should be preventable with a few pillows to prop up against.
