Here are the classic symptoms of pregnancy. How many do you have?
- Missed Period- Can you practically use your period to set a clock and now you’re overdue by a week or more? It might be time to buy a pregnancy test… A sudden irregularity in your cycle without outside stressors is a big indicator that you may be pregnant.
- Morning Sickness- This usually hits in the first month, however some women experience it sooner and others never get it. Contrary to the name, it can strike anytime.
- Spotting- This is known as implantation spotting and it is a tricky one because it tends to appear around the same time that you would expect your period to start.
- Tender Breasts- The hormonal changes your body is going through tend to make the girls sore and achy. Don’t worry, it’s only temporary. Your body will adjust after a few weeks.
- Fatigue- Unusually high levels of tiredness rank high among early pregnancy symptoms. You are not alone. You can thank progesterone for this one. The levels of this hormone soar at the beginning of pregnancy and leads to sleepiness.
Most women have heard about these symptoms, but there are others that you may not have-
- Darkening nipples/areolas- So the girls are sore and now changing color as well? Perfectly normal when you are pregnant.
- Bloating- Just as you might feel at the start of your period, early pregnancy can also make you feel bloated. Thanks, nature. Way to send a mixed message.
- Mood Swings- Along with some of these other symptoms, the flood of hormonal changes makes new mommies very moody. Prepare for higher highs and lower lows, happiness, and depression in some cases. Reach out to your doctor if you start to struggle with this.
- Backaches/Headaches/Other aches- New aches and pains are common with pregnancy. Some will come and go throughout your trimesters. Lower back pain is common in the third trimester.
- New Cravings- Cravings and the opposite of them, aversions, will pop up sporadically. Feel free to indulge in these cravings/aversions just so long as you are getting adequate nutrition otherwise. These can strike at any time during pregnancy and are relatively harmless.
